Wayson R. Jones

Bio

Wayson R. Jones is a painter, musician, and spoken-word artist. He received a degree in music from University of Maryland and later became part of Washington DC’s pioneering Black gay and lesbian arts scene of the 1980’s and ‘90s. His visual art is informed by these experiences and by an exuberant approach to materiality and process. He has had solo shows at BlackRock Center for the Arts, Arts/Harmony Hall, Northern Virginia Community College, DCAC, and Prince George’s County Publick Playhouse.

Born from humble beginnings on 14th Street NW, Martha's Table began as a safe space for children to access after-school meals. Today, they support strong children, strong families, and strong communities by operating nationally accredited education programs beginning at birth; fighting for food justice and increasing access to healthy meals and fresh produce for over 20,000 residents; and promoting family success through our no-cost community store and engagement programs. Martha's Table believes that every Washingtonian deserves the opportunity to thrive.
